Pray With Boldness

"So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him."
Matthew 7:11 (NLT)

"My first-born son gave me his Christmas wish list yesterday. I was eager to see it since I wanted to get some ideas for presents. As I read the list, I was shocked at some of the things that he wanted. His list was extravagant. The gifts on the list are pricey. What boldness he has, I thought. My adult son knows that I will not buy him everything on the list, yet he simply handed me the list with great confidence. The items on his list are needs that he has for his music ministry, so, of course, I desire to buy him every item on the list. If I am willing to give my child all that he asked for, how much more can our Father in heaven do on behalf of one of his children? My son’s attitude took me by surprise, but the Lord wanted to teach me something about Himself and His goodness.

You see, I rarely come before the Lord with such boldness; I don’t come to him with a list of wants and needs. When I come to God, I am quite timid, and my list includes the bare essentials. After my son handed me his wish list, I started pondering about the differences between how I come to the Lord and how my son comes to me. His demeanor was full of expectancy, whereas I bring my requests to God without great confidence, because I think that God may not be pleased with me, so He may not grant my requests. I am giving God human characteristics. God is the opposite of me. God is perfect love; He is faithful; He is my Father, and He loves me much more than I love my son. He loves me so much that He gave is only Son to die on the cross, so that I can live forever. How many times have I come to the Lord with my extravagant list of wants and needs? Rarely. God is challenging me to be bold and come forth before Him daily to ask and lay down all of my needs, my hopes, my dreams, and even my wants before His throne. I am His, and He desires that kind of intimacy with me."

​Sara Hall is a widow and mother of four children. Being of Hispanic origin, she loves having her family near her at all times. Sara has a tremendous passion for learning all subjects and studying the Bible; and, has been a Christian for a total of 31 years. Having the spiritual gift of exhortation, she loves helping people strengthen their walks with The Lord.
