We know that Jesus was publicly put to death, buried, and ascended into heaven. We have eyewitness accounts of each of these events. He did all of this so that we could be just like Him in every spiritual and physical way. But He also did something that we never have to experience. He walked a particular path after crucifixion, in order to give us a free pass from the terrible experience called the grave. Before He was resurrected and ascended into heaven, Jesus spent three days in the grave. There is some debate about whether He went to Hell or not; but I’m not that Biblically learned or concerned. I just know He rose so that I don’t have to go there. But neither do I have to experience the agony of the grave! He took that experience on our behalf!
Think about the words in Romans 8:29, “the firstborn of many brethren.” Think about any firstborn child. I’m a firstborn and I’ve raised a firstborn, so I can say with confidence, not only do the younger ones look up to and often follow the elder’s example, but a good eldest child, makes sure that those who come after them don’t encounter the same pitfalls they had to endure. Jesus’ trip to the grave (and indeed entire life!!) was just like that. He made certain that whatever comes after death, we skip and bypass it and enter straight into eternity! We never have to fear what comes after we close our eyes into death! Heaven is immediate for those whose Savior is The Lord Jesus Christ.
If you are reading this and for some reason you have never asked Jesus and confessed Him to be your Lord, please do so today. Pray this prayer right now,
“Jesus I want to live in heaven for all eternity. I believe that you are the only way to heaven. From this moment on I turn from my own way, and live for You. Please save me and live in my heart. Amen”
If you’ve prayed this prayer CONGRATULATIONS! Email me at [email protected] to let me know that you have become a new Christian! The Grave no longer has even a second’s hold on you!
