Learn and Lead has been steadily growing over the last few years and my passion in fulfilling my personal and professional missions constantly drive me to take our company to the next level. Like many young woman entrepreneurs with similar mindsets, I know that there is often a personal cost that comes when your passion and drive become what you do in life.
A few months ago I was forced to reflect on my level of balance at that time. I did not like what I saw. I saw that I was too often working in survival mode, and needed to find a way to turn things around. I decided that I needed to step back and assess the areas of need in my life and what could be changed in order to help me achieve personal balance, which in turn would make me a better wife and mother.
Achieving balance is a personal thing. If you want to achieve more balance in your life, take a look at where you are now. Assess what you like, what you don’t like, and what you think needs to change. Once you do that, it’s about putting steps in place to help you get to your end goals. Create supports for yourself that will help you be successful on this journey. Everyday life can be overwhelming, and taking the time to organize your daily events can help to make life seem more manageable.
When I did my personal assessment of where I was and where I wanted to be, I realized that I needed to get my home more organized as that was the area that I often felt like I was failing in. I decided that I needed to organize my household like I did my business. I needed to put solid routines in place that made certain things in our household become automatic, so that our family time could be true family time. For those of you that find your household needs some organizing, you may find the following tips helpful:
1. Plan your meals for the week on Sundays. This will save you time, thought and money in a busy week.
2. Establish morning and evening routines in your household. Mornings can be chaotic and establishing an evening routine that prepares your household for the morning, and following it up by a solid morning routine can drastically reduce the feeling of chaos and allow you to start your day off on a better foot.
3. Schedule monthly, weekly and daily. Post a monthly family schedule somewhere that is visible o all. Each week use this as a starting point to create your personal weekly schedule and daily to do lists.
4. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Don’t fall into the trap of cutting out exercise from your busy life. Remember that before you can take care of others, you must first take care of yourself.
5. Family and friend fun time is essential. Part of achieving balance is ensuring that you are enjoying your life and the time you spend with those around you. Therefore, be sure to set aside time to spend with the people that are the most important to you. Don’t be afraid to schedule it in!
