Grace has been given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s Gift. So there are two questions that need to be addressed here.
Now regarding question one, let’s see what scripture says…
Colossians 2:9-10(a) says this, “For in Him (meaning Christ) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him…”
And Ephesians 1:3 says this,
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,”
The word “measure” in this week’s passage seems to imply that there is some limit on Christ’s gift to us, but we see that by these two passages alone, we are complete and have everything we need in Christ. Again, Grace has been given to us according to the measure of Christ's Gift. I mean, what can really limit the Gift from the God of the universe...whatever it may be??? Let me tell you what : nothing but our response and receiving. Period.
Our response to His Grace and Gift determines whether we will receive anything at all. James 1:5-7 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;” Wisdom is God’s Grace and also a spiritual gift. So what is said of wisdom, can be said of anything that is found in Christ.
Being open and humble to continually ask and receive determines how much we will be able to truly receive and increase in Grace. James 4:6 says, “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.””
This week, and from now on, don’t limit God, His Spirit, or the Gift you have in Christ by your natural understanding. If you feel like you have reached the end of your rope, or the end of someone else’s limitations on you, seek The One from whom all Grace comes. As I once told someone who asked how I get everything done, “The same way I get even one thing done…God’s Grace!” The same Grace that helps us to do what we think is insignificant, is the same Grace that will be sufficient in times of great need.
“But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” ~1 Corinthians 12:11
