What's in Your Heart?

“Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.” ~Proverbs 4:23 KJV
Today’s society generally considers the head and brain to be the center and director of human activity. However, the bible speaks of the heart as the center; “out of it are the issues of life” (proverbs 4:23) “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good: an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” ~ Luke 6:48 KJV.

When the bible speaks of the heart, it is not referring to our physical organ that pumps blood throughout our body. Rather, the heart consists of your mind, will, and emotions. The condition of our heart affects the way we think, and it also plays an important part in our decision making.

I will be transparent with you for a moment. At the age of 13, I was told that the man I thought was my father really wasn’t. At that very moment, a seed was planted and that seed grew bigger and bigger, and before I knew it, I was battling with myself internally. That seed caused me to feel inadequate and not wanted. I began to think something was wrong with me. Unaware of the tricks and schemes of the enemy, I started to accept the lies the enemy was bringing to me. I told myself something must be wrong with me because what father denies his child? I found myself searching for love and attention in all the wrong places trying to fill a void. My heart was tainted and I didn’t even realize it until later on in life. Because of my “heart” condition, I began to live out of my “emotions” and my choices were based on how I felt inside—not what was right. Mind you, at this time of my life I was ignorant to the word of God, and I certainly didn’t know that I had an adversary that wanted to abort the purpose God placed in me before I was formed in my mother’s womb.

What some would call a “small seed” caused me to go through a vicious cycle of dead-end relationships with men that were not good for me; they certainly didn’t have my best interests in mind. I didn’t even know my own value at that point in my life, so I allowed things and situations to occur that a person with a healthy heart wouldn’t have allowed. It took reading and applying God's Word, The Bible, and allowing the Word to heal my “heart” from those past hurts to realize that my “heart” had been malfunctioning for many years following the planting of that one seed. Additionally, because I was accepting the lies of the enemy for all of those years, getting in the Word caused me to realize that I didn’t see myself as God saw me.

It is so important that we fill our hearts with the Word and be very cognizant of what we allow in our eye and ear gates, because they can have a major impact on our hearts. For instance, I am a music fanatic and I love all types of music. I found myself having to be cautious of the music I would listen to because I found myself reminiscing about old relationships and events when I heard certain songs. Certain ungodly desires then began to arise from certain songs!

Think of your heart as a sponge—it absorbs everything and it has no filter. It is up to us to be the filter and be cognizant of what we allow in our hearts. Today, I encourage you to search your hearts and go to God in prayer. Ask that He reveals to you any dark areas or even any areas that may need healing from something—past or present.

When the Enemy Whispers...GOD ALWAYS WINS!

"When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him" ~Isaiah 59:19b (King James 2000 Bible, 2003)
My life is good; I’m happy and have no complaints. There is nothing I need, that I do not already have ..But the enemy knows this too! If we are not careful, of “how” and “what” we think, his whispers can become louder than God’s Word. I was having a great day a couple of weeks ago, enjoying life and having a quiet evening, sitting still and enjoying the peace...then I heard the enemy whisper. I tried to ignore it but I wasn't prayed up and the whispers became louder and louder. Thoughts of doubt began to creep into my mind as the enemy whispered reminding me of my past failures and that I would never make it to where I was trying to go...to where God is leading me. Almost immediately, my thoughts became negative, despite how good I just mentioned my life is. All it takes is one millisecond of a negative thought for the enemy to creep into your mind and turn your world upside down!

The whispers of the enemy constantly tries to convince us that we are not good enough, or there is no hope for us, or there is no way you can succeed because we’ve had too many failures or there is too much to fear, or that no one loves us. He wants us to believe God has abandoned us and that there is no salvation or hope for us. He wants us to believe if we sin we have no chance to be redeemed. He wants to take away our belief in God and Jesus so we will suffer with him and the rest of the fallen angels when the end time comes. He wants to take as many of us he can with him into the pits of hell when the judgment day comes. He will even use the bible and its scriptures in a deceptive way to mislead us.

....BUT GOD!

This is one of the reasons why it is so important to know the Word for yourself. Study it, breathe it, live it and walk daily by it! The enemy got my attention...but so did God! You see, I was slacking in my devotion time, which some of us often do when things are “going good” but that is when we need to stay on our knees and praise Him the most! The enemy doesn’t want you when you’re doing bad...because he already has you! He wants those who are walking in God’s will. He wants to destroy your path of righteous and lead you on the pathway to hell. So every day I MUST get on my knees, not only to keep the enemy at bay...but so I can hear the whispers of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Remember...
  • Our Savior tells us that ...“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV)
  • Our Savior tells us that... “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12 NKJV)
  • Our Savior tells us... “Yes I am with you always, until the very end of time” (Matthew 28:20)
  • Our Savior tells us... “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4 NKJV)
  • Our Savior tells us... “In the world you will have trouble but take courage for I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33b NIV)

So when the enemy whispers...GOD ALWAYS WINS!

God Bless,
Angela Hayden

The Armor of God

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." ~Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

  Boston    Harbor

Today some of us woke thinking
Oh no it’s Monday again
But the people who ran the Boston marathon today
Had their hearts set out to win

But you never know when the enemy will strike
As tomorrow is not promised
Just watching the news as tears roll down my face
Feeling heartbroken and looking astonished

You've got to stay suited up and be prepared for war
As we fight not against flesh and blood
You see Monday is nothing to fear at all
When the enemy is taking out those that we love

One by one he attempts to strike us down
When he knows we’re not prepared
He lurks around our homes, our jobs, and our schools
Now even marathons and our house of prayer

So don’t ever regret the beginning of a new week
As you see someone else is always worse off than you
Shake that little trail or tribulation that’s holding you down
You've been too blessed to have the Monday blue’s

If God gave you air in your lungs
To breathe just one more day
You should get on your knees and thank Him now
Because it could have been you or I on the news today

Suit up… because life is too short
And it only takes a split second for the enemy to slip in
But I ask that each of you touch and agree
As there is no battle that our Savior cannot win!

So Suit Up! ~ Our Prayers go out to Boston

God Bless,
Angela Hayden

Freedom of Surrender

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
Ahhh… It’s Monday once again! Some of you are dreading today because of something that happened last week or over the weekend and you just could not shake it or let it go. But how can you expect to live for today if you “will not” surrender your yesterday?

Maybe it's the word "surrender." We usually associate it with defeat, humiliation, and losing. Surrender literally means to stop fighting. Stop fighting with yourself. Stop fighting the universe and the natural flow of things. Stop resisting and pushing against reality. Our world never considers surrender a good thing. Fortunately for us, God is above this world, yet still intimately involved in it. Somewhere along the way, we got the wrong notion that things happen that even God has no control over. But that’s not true. He has control over ALL things. What we tend to forget is that He also gave us free will.

In our daily lives we have to be careful to make wise decisions and always remember that for every choice we make, there is always a consequence(s) that comes along with it (whether good or bad). Even when you make a bad decision that you thought was a good one at the time, it’s okay, you just have to be careful as to not let those bad decisions hold you captive. Surrender it. We all make mistakes. You must love yourself enough to let go.

We spend so much time focusing on what’s wrong that we often overlook what’s right. So let go of (surrender) the pain of your past, forgive those who hurt you, forgive yourself and choose to be a VICTOR and not a victim. It’s a new day and the beginning of a new week. So let go and give it to God, so that you may find rest…it’s time to walk into your season!

Once you let go…you’ll be amazed at the freedom of surrender! Besides, the energy of surrender accomplishes so much more than energy of control.

So let’s make this Monday matter because tomorrow is not promised.

Managing Influence

4/1/2013

"There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabez because his birth had been so painful. He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request."  1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NLT)
Influence is a gift from God. Jabez asked God to increase him in influence and impact, and God granted his request. He transformed a life that was birthed out of pain, into a life overflowing with influence, among other things. But the Bible says God granted Jabez's request because he was more honorable than his brothers.

So must we be honorable with what we do with our gift of influence, including how we use it, and how/whether we allow others to manipulate it. It is a disgrace to God for us use our influence ignorantly or recklessly. It is prideful to use our influence presumptuously or selfishly. And it is poor stewardship to allow the influence God gave US to be manipulated by others for THEIR self-interested purposes.

If God has given you influence (and He has, even if it is over none but your own household), be very careful of how you use and allow that influence to be used. With the immense impact of Social Media on the world, it is becoming easier by the “friend/follower” for people to try to take what God has given you, and use it for their own purposes.

Be a Good Steward/Honorable with every Gift/talent God has given you: Make sure others respect and Honor the God who gave you your influence by ensuring that they,
1. Connect with you honorably on Social Media, and
2. Use your influence in ways that line up with the statutes of God

I pray we all have influential Facebooking/Tweeting/Blogging, and may The Name of JESUS always be honored and made great when associated with OUR name! Amen!

God Bless,
Dawn~
