“to equip his people for works of service,” Ephesians 4:12(a)
The commentary in my NIV Study Bible says this about the passage, “Those mentioned in verse 11 were not to do all the work of the people but were to train the people to do the work for themselves.” This is one of my greatest passions…to see Women of God adequately, thoroughly, spiritually equipped to walk in purpose…working confidently in what God has ordained.
So to piggyback off of the message from last week, this portion of scripture makes it even more vital for us to truly appreciate and honor those who help us walk and work in the Kingdom of God. Those in the fivefold calling are not to be viewed as those who have no right to speak into our lives or over our walk. They are not to be viewed as men and women “just like us.” Yes, they are just like us in the sense of being human and flawed. However, if they have been called and are walking in the fullness of that calling, they have been granted greater understanding, wisdom, insight, and authority that comes directly from God, and is intended specifically for OUR GOOD and growth. It like taking an airplane flight: The stewards and stewardesses are human just like us, but they have been greater knowledge and authority by the pilot and airline to help passengers remain safe, calm and comfortable, and get to where they are going in a timely manner. The same with any hierarchical organism. Those with greater endowments are collectively for the benefit of helping everyone else evolve into their individual purposes.
How can you not only give thanks to those in the fivefold ministry this week, but also become more intentional about learning something from them that leads to greater ministry, purpose, and kingdom work in your own life? Make that a goal for this week on this amazing Monday!
Seeking to Grow my Walk with God and Others,
