But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone.’” ~Luke 4:4 (NLT) To some it may seem out of date, but it's still true...JESUS IS THE ANSWER...! In the verse above Jesus reminds our enemy, Satan, that LIFE does not consist of, neither does it solely depend, on the things that we feel we need. (See also Luke 12:15) In reading Luke 4:4, we can substitute the word "bread" for that which we can: create, earn, get, buy, win, imagine, influence, own, touch, taste, see, hear... The things by which we depend on to satisfy this life are wholly unsatisfying, and often very disappointing. Alone, they can frustrate our living and our happiness. But when we add Christ to the equation, everything balances; and, that which alone causes disappointment, becomes dynamic! Christ came so that we might have life more abundantly -- HE is that "special sauce" that creates for us a life out of our living. He is the solitary ingredient that makes the mundane, mediocre, and morose, AMAZING! My twelve year old son's favorite saying is, "Jesus didnt come to make bad people good, He came to make dead people ALIVE!" Another way of putting it is like this...Christ is oxygen for the people, things, and places that define us. Without Him, they have no life. Give your possessions and plans to Christ, and He will multiply your "bread," and your living! Don't be tempted to settle for "bread alone...!" | I share this song and video on this post because I am a big Celine Dion fan, and this song title and rhythm personifies the true feeling of being ALIVE for me! I watched this video every day for months at my work desk in 2007. I hope you enjoy! D~ |
