So....I was having a discussion a couple of weeks ago with a group of friends about the climate of persecution toward the various religious faiths. All the major belief systems suffer from their own brand of persecution for one reason or another. But we soon ended up with one (Christian) person relating about how their research had led them to “like” a particular faith that has been widely distorted from the original teachings.
I felt strongly to admonish this individual that there is certainly nothing wrong with appreciating the wholesome and moral values and teaching of another faith, but the danger comes in when we begin believing that another path can:
As a child, no matter how fun, exciting, or “good” someone else’s parent is, you can’t escape the TRUTH that the parents who gave you life are the only ones who can make that claim. Period. The same is true for our Lord, Faith, and baptism. There are many lords, but only one can reconcile us to our Creator. There are many faiths, but only one can seal our identity as sons and daughters of the One True God. And there is only one avenue to true baptism: Salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We are in no way to demean the faiths of others, but let us remember that our identity is fully tied to the path of The One, not the many… He is the one who gave us life, hope, and destiny. Never stray to another, no matter how exciting or appealing they may be.
