Costly Oil
“A woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil…
she broke the flask and poured it on His head.”
Mark 14:3
she broke the flask and poured it on His head.”
Mark 14:3
The woman who poured her oil on Jesus had made a lifestyle out of sinful habits, forbidden practices and compromise. Her life had become a series of one rejection, humiliation, shameful act, and poor choice after another. But after each indiscretion, secretly she would take the wages of her sin and purchase another ounce or two of costly oil that she stored away. It was the smallest ray of hope in her life until Jesus came along. I can see her on some very down days with tears streaming down her face as she sits gazing at her flask and sniffing the sweet aroma that had cost her all of her self respect and hope for a decent future. But what she did not realize was that everything in her past was setting her up to intersect with her destiny. That one moment when she poured all of her most valued possession on her Christ was the very moment she was destined for: To anoint the Messiah in preparation for His burial (Mark 14:8). From that moment on, her purpose fulfilled, her sins were forgiven, and life truly began for her in a way she never thought possible. That moment she received a promise that we too can claim: That when we give Him ALL, our GREATNESS, not our indiscretion, will pass on from generation to generation…our Legacy is certain, and our posterity inherits from the remembrance of our Walk of Faith.
This Biblical account is the premise and foundation for Costly Oil LP, a Christian coaching ministry.
When you read the Biblical premise for Costly Oil, you may be tempted to think, “Here we go! Another sob story and pity party for women!” But what you may not see in this reading is how this woman came to the end of herself, and at that point it did not matter that she did not meet the status quo, or that she had to endure open humiliation, ridicule and possible rejection by her Lord in order to fulfill her destiny. She had been through it ALL, and yet she still had her precious oil. Costly Oil is about women who have come to the end of themselves and are finally serious about the destiny Christ has for them, no matter what the cost. Costly Oil is not a support group. It defines who we are!! We are Costly Oil! When we finally decide to release our treasures to Christ, then we finally become willing to pay any price for the Oil (anointing, gifts, destiny, fruit) He returns to and brings out of us. Costly Oil is for women who no longer love their own lives, but can make the sacrifices to protect the oil of their lamps. Costly Oil is not about a quick fix to immediate problems, but a journey of self discovery, pruning and cultivating the character and essence of Christ in our lives. We are about paying the price and sacrificing everything (if need be) to become the ministry Christ has for us. When we get to the point of costly oil, we become keenly aware of the purpose and design of every situation that we encounter. We learn to strategically utilize life situations and circumstances to grow and stretch in the fruit and character of Christ. We begin to give ourselves over to them instead of seeking escape. Our entire attitude becomes, “where is GOD working in this situation?” We allow Him to squeeze us and PRESS[ure] from us the very costly oils that He placed within us.
