Last week I touched on the callings of Apostle and Prophet. This week I have listed some basic traits and responsibilities of the evangelist, pastor, and teacher as found online:
Evangelist: “The term “Evangelism” encompasses every effort to declare the Good News of Jesus Christ, to the end that people may understand God’s offer of salvation and respond in repentance, faith and discipleship. Perhaps the work of the Evangelist is best defined as “Winning the lost to Christ, through the preaching of the word, in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the building up the body of Christ."”1
Pastor: Feed the Flock; Strengthen the Diseased and Heal the Sick; Bind Up That Which Was Broken; Bring Back That Which Was Driven Away; Seek That Which Was Lost.2
Teacher: Has an insatiable love of God’s word; has a broad and deep knowledge of the word; spends much time studying the Bible; is a serious, sober-minded person of integrity; speaks with authority; is clearly gifted by the Holy Spirit for this ministry; has the patience to teach systematically, verse-by-verse as well as topically, year after year; like the other fivefold ministers, is motivated to see believers perfected; successfully raises up other pulpit ministers; is a spiritual person; is not an isolationist; keeps open dialogue with other ministers, who collectively can help each other stay on the path of sound doctrine; their way of life is biblical and above reproach.3
To reiterate my encouragement from last week, I pray that you have been challenged and encouraged to ask God whether you have been called, and what that calling means for your life! If you’ve never done so before, Make this Monday Matter and start today! Make it a great week!
