Special NYE 2016 Edition Blog

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. ~Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)
You may be able to tell from all the posting and tweeting and sharing on Facebook that I am really excited about 2016! Not because I’m ready for 2015 to be over, because 2015 has been a truly phenomenal year, in spite of a couple of deep losses. I have watched God move powerfully in the lives of some amazing Believers. I’ve watched His Name made great in the secular world in a way I never have before. (WOW to War Room is all I can say…I have tears even now thinking about it). I have grown personally in my intimacy with God, my prayer life, my love and understanding of His Word. I have watched revival take place in my life personally, in my children’s lives, and in our home-life. I have made less income than I have in the last several years, but I have given more! (THAT is what you truly call the law of seed-time and Harvest). I could probably go on, but you get the gist…2015 was a testimony year for me personally.

But the reason for this special edition blog is to share something God laid on my heart just yesterday. As stated, I have been truly anticipating the coming New Year in great fashion, mainly because of what God is doing here at Costly Oil. Although I have never been one to consistently celebrate on New Year’s Eve (twice in 10 years I estimate), this year is different for me. Closing this year out has taken on special meaning, for all the reasons I list above. So what could I do? Our family does not “party” as the world does; and, all our celebrating completely surrounds the goodness of The Lord. So what could we do to honor all that He has done and the wonders we have seen, heard, and experienced personally???

The following is what came to my heart for our family's New Year’s Eve "celebration":

Repent
We begin our celebration with a time of repenting to The Lord and one another. Kind of weird? Not really. As we look to go into the New Year, it is vital that our lives stand clean and available before God if we want to receive more of what He has planned.

Relax
Our house has been diligently prepped beforehand, and we have nothing left to do but relax as we enter the New Year. Our hearts and homes are clean and, literally and symbolically, ready for whatever God wants to do in and through us in 2016.

Reflect
As 2015 winds away, this will be our family’s time to reflect on all that has taken place over the last year.

Rejoice
This will also be our time to look ahead once again and rejoice at the possibilities and promises The Lord holds in His Hand.

I hope that your family finds a way to make this season of change meaningful as well as fun! We have our Sparkling Cider on ice at this very moment! Cheers! And Happy New Year!

With Much Gratitude and Expectation,
Dawn~

"but [we] speaking the truth in love may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—" ~Ephesians 4:15 (NKJV)
Greetings Friends!

I pray you all have had a wonderful Christmas, and are looking forward to new and exciting endeavors for 2016! I hope you have had a few moments to read my previous Blog about all the changes taking place here at Costly Oil, and are considering joining me on this journey!

Well, almost everything is in place, and I am ready to share the details about the new things going on here!

First, on the "Home" Page you will notice that the Theme for 2016 is, "Walking With God and Others." This Theme will be a year-long focus and study of Ephesians Chapter Four.

Second, starting next Monday, the "Make Mondays Matter Weekly Blog" Page will look  a little different.  Last year was a celebration of ten years of ministry. The section to your right that currently highlights that milestone anniversary, will be revamped to explain the new year-long focus of Ephesians four, and the major role this blog will play in that year-long focus.

Third, the biggest change to the ministry website surrounds "The Christian Woman Chronicles" Page. This page was previously used solely for Bible Study blogs. Now, the page has a completely new look, structure, and purpose! I would LOVE for you to check it out and give me your feedback when you have time! (I'm not a professional web designer, and I don't have the best software, so have a little mercy! LoL) The purpose of this page has been changed to offer a variety of resources and tools designed to help Believers in their day to day walk with God. From web links to devotionals and Spiritual gifts assessments, to worship and devotional music, to daily prayer points starting Jan. 1, this page will hopefully be a great resource for site visitors to find something to uplift their spirit and deepen their Faith. The Bible Study Blog is of course still located on this page, and has been reduced to a single study per year. This year's study, like the remainder of the website, will be taken from Ephesians four.

I have created a new Twitter account specifically for sharing Daily Prayer Points for CWC and the ministry Facebook page. If you have Twitter, I would love for you to follow me, to receive and share the Daily Prayer Points. If you have Facebook, you can Like the ministry Page and get the Daily Prayer Points there. Please feel free to share these pages and accounts with your friends! Both accounts are listed below.

Once again, I truly hope many or all of you will join me in sharing the depth and truth of God's Word by lending your insight and wisdom to Ephesians Four throughout 2016.

Dawn~

The Christmas Spirit (2015)

"Sharing Love ~
one note at a time.

Strengthening families ~ one love note at a time." ~Christmas Love Box

Picture
Last year I was completely engulfed by the true spirit of Christmas. I shared my heart in my 2014 Christmas blog, which you can read by clicking HERE. I pray that you will read all about it and hear my heart. I've decided I want to make the Mondays each year leading up to December 25th all about focusing on the true spirit of Christmas.

Another occurrence last year is that my family and I were introduced to a family Christmas tradition that helped us focus on the true spirit of Christmas. It is called the Christmas Love Box. The Christmas Love Box tradition "begins when family and friends each have a box, write love notes to each other & later read them to each other. Creating a close family, forever.”

This family tradition helps your family “celebrate the holidays in a more meaningful and spiritual way. Transcend the ‘What did you get’ mentality to feeling the spirit of kindness and love. Discover the true meaning of Christmas – gratitude, joy and love for family and friends. There are no greater gifts. Capture your families’ truest sentiments and give the gift that lasts a lifetime.”

We found these descriptions of the Christmas Love Box to be more than mere words, but truth. The night before Christmas, as we shared our love notes with one another, our time together was overwhelming, from least to greatest! This year my children couldn’t wait to bring out our family Love Box so we could begin writing our Love Notes to one another!

I encourage you to consider incorporating this wonderful Christmas tradition into your family festivities. It will bring the true spirit of Christmas into every gift opened, and help your entire family remember what this day is all about.

Blessings and Merry Christmas,
Dawn~
~Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.~

Read what the creator of the Christmas Love Box, Christine Martinello, has to say...

How did the Christmas Love Box begin?
"It started in 1999 on a cold, wet day in November, when I took my children – 5 year old David, 3-year old Tina & 2-year old Steve- Christmas shopping.  We were walking around a huge store and we were looking at all this stuff.  The kids were pointing out toys they would like to get for Christmas.  I was looking at everything on the shelves and this thought went through my head, “What can I buy my kids to show them how much I really love them?”  There was nothing in the store, so we went home empty handed that day.”

La
t
er that night, my husband Bob & I were trying to figure out how to show love for Christmas instead of just giving presents.  We decided to write love notes to the kids and each other.  On Christmas Eve day we each wrote a love note or drew pics to each other telling each other what we loved about each other.  On Christmas Even night we gathered together in the living room, lit candles and read the birth of Jesus story from the Bible.  Then we went around the room reading each other the love notes.   It was a night filled with peace, appreciation and love for each other.

The tradition was born and we have done it every Christmas Eve since.  It has been the best gift, to share the gift of love with family and friends, one love note at a time."

The Proper Perspective to Promise

"Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes..."
~Deuteronomy 8:11
A week ago Sunday, my Pastor delivered an absolutely wonderful sermon! It was timely and, as always, laser clear instruction for God's People to follow concerning the things He desires to manifest in every area of our lives. I couldn't wait to sit at the laptop and share what I received from the sermon, and sermon passage during my time of study! It may shock you that you won't have to worry about a wordy blog this week! God’s instructions for us to receive all He planned are simple, they have never changed, and they need no excessive commentary.

What I will add in the way of introduction is this…if you believe with all your heart that God is promising, preparing, or leading you toward more of anything in 2016, please, please, please hold onto the verses and points of perspective shared below! Don’t let distraction and disobedience slip in and cause you to loose the promises God meant for your good!

Blessings,

Dawn~

Deuteronomy Chapter 8 ~ The Proper Perspective to God's Promises

Point of Perspective #1 ~Deuteronomy 8:1

Remember to OBEY so you may:
-Live
-Multiply
-Go in and Possess
(Obedience is the one Christian Discipline that opens the doors of life and legacy)

Point of Perspective #2 ~Deuteronomy 8:10
Remember to BLESS The Lord (Praise and Thank Him when you receive all He has promised)

Point of Perspective #3 ~Deuteronomy 8:18
Remember it was ONLY The Lord who strengthened you
(Give Him all the credit when you receive all He has promised)

"Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"
~Esther 4:14b (NKJV)
Well the online Bible Study of the Book of Esther I was participating in has ended. But as I promised in my comments on the study, I want to share what I learned in Week Four of the study. Before I get to what I learned, I want to reiterate how helpful and insightful this study by Danielle Lynn was. I had never truly studied the Book of Esther, and was very surprised by some of the nuggets that were being revealed to me through this amazing, sweet, and pure Love story. THANK YOU Danielle for presenting me personally with this opportunity for growth!

Now on to a little bit of stage setting…..as is usually the case with any study that I conduct or participate in, God always has the perfect study for where I am spiritually. As I began “How to Come Before The King,” I found myself, like Esther, in a place of spiritual abundance. I will be honest, in all my years as a Believer and Follower of Christ, I had never been in such a season before. Especially not for this length of time.

Although I was in awe and relished the peace and victory, I was also sort of questioning God about what a person is supposed to do in this season. It did not take long for me to have opportunity to minister to a number of Women of God who were under severe spiritual attack. Before I knew it, God’s Spirit was daily leading me to be in vigilant prayer, and constant encouragement of these precious women.

One evening during Week Four of How to Come Before The King, as I was in prayer, The Spirit of The Lord reminded me of two incidents in scripture. The first was of David and Bathsheba; and, the second was of Aaron and Hur on the hill as the Israelites fought in battle. Here are two very similar situations with drastically different results.

In the first situation, the Israelites were at war, but their king was not. He was supposed to be, but instead he remained behind as his men fought victoriously…while he fell into great temptation and sin. In the second situation, the leader Moses was on the battlefield, but his arms often became weary. So God brought him two helpers to hold up his arms to ensure that their people won the battle together.

As I recalled these incidents, and read what played out in Esther chapter four, I felt a word of instruction clearly saying, “During this season of abundance, you are to be like Aaron, Hur and Esther. Don’t do as David did.” In other words, just because The Lord shields us from Satan, and gives us rest from our enemies (for a season), does not mean we are allowed to be self-focused and lazy! Our season of abundance is so that we can help, hold up the arms of, and stand in the gap for OTHERS.

Just like Esther could have relished in her season of great ease and favor, and Aaron and Hur could have let Moses stand alone, we each will have opportunities to take advantage of a season of prosperity and make life all about us. But remember David! The moment he became complacent and neglectful of his calling, was the moment he fell. Praise God for His provision of victory and protection from enemies, because it comes from Him and it is for His purposes. But ALWAYS stay on the battlefield! Someone somewhere is in a season of intense warfare! Be their Aaron, Hur, or Esther…

Blessings,

Dawn~

    Make Mondays Matter

This year at Costly Oil, we will continue looking at the stories of women in the Bible and apply those lessons to what we are experiencing today. Here on our MMM Blog, we will dig into "How Words Work" to make the faith connections that help us believe God.

Walk with us as we walk in the written footsteps of women who walked with God and use our words to propel us forward in faith!

Join us on both the Christian Woman Chronicles and Make Mondays Matter pages as we discover
who we are in Christ and recognize that God is in the midst of it all.
